Building a Greener Future: Parkville’s New Sustainable Development Standards

Monday, January 13, 2025

At Confluence, we are thrilled to collaborate with the City of Parkville on their newly adopted Site and Landscape Standards, a transformative step toward sustainable development. These standards, approved in August 2024, will guide future projects to prioritize environmental stewardship and enhance the City’s unique character.

Key highlights include:

  • Native Planting Requirements: Landscaping must include at least 70% native species, supporting biodiversity, water conservation, and soil health.
  • Green Stormwater Management: Emphasis on infrastructure to manage runoff while protecting natural ecosystems.
  • Open Space Landscaping: Ensuring green spaces enhance livability and aesthetics.
  • Parking Lot Landscaping: Mitigating environmental and visual impacts.
  • Outdoor Lighting Standards: Reducing light pollution for a more sustainable nightscape.

"We believe that sustainable development is essential for the future of our city. These new standards will help us preserve and enhance a more beautiful, resilient, and environmentally friendly community for all of our residents," said Mayor Dean Katerndahl.
