"Confluence's strength in this project has been the ability to capture the spirit of the Iowa City community and translate it into a park design that is both functional and imaginative."
Juli Seydell Johnson / Director of Parks & Recreation, City of Iowa City
Iowa City, Iowa
This park has transformed the site of the City’s former wastewater treatment facility into an open space and community connector providing a variety of experiences for its many users.
The project began with our team revising a prior Master Plan for the site to better define the proposed civic and recreational spaces within the park, while celebrating its connection to the City. Confluence led an multi-disciplinary team through multiple phases of design and construction, resulting in a community park that serves as a regional destination.
Serving dual purposes, the design approach provides an active recreation and entertainment venue while also offering ample open space for the Iowa River and Ralston Creek to rise during flood season.
