Kansas City, Missouri
Serving as Kansas City’s largest and most enduring public farmers’ market, the Historic City Market provides an iconic destination for the community in the heart of the River Market District.
Since 1857, the City Market is one of the largest facilities of its kind in the Midwest. City Market shops and restaurants are open daily with more than 40 full-time tenants, offering an eclectic mix of dining, shopping, entertainment and attractions year-round. This project will improve traffic flow throughout the River Market while also increasing parking availability to serve existing retail uses on the east side of the market. This pedestrian-oriented street is also designed to be closed to vehicular traffic during weekend market use and for large festivals and events.
Confluence led a multi-disciplinary team to reconnect a two-block segment of Walnut Street through the City Market. Concepts for enhancements along the corridor and throughout the City Market were also created, including the integration of some iconic placemaking features.
