This corridor action plan provides strategies to improve the circulation, land use and character of this key historic gateway into the City of Cedar Rapids.
The City retained Confluence to develop a Corridor Action Plan along 2.8 miles of Mt. Vernon Road, a historic gateway into the City and one of its most traveled roads. Mt. Vernon Road is a key arterial street and a primary truck route that is bordered by a wide mix of land uses. The goal of the action plan was to identify strategies to transform the corridor into a functional and aesthetically appealing gateway into the City. Through a robust public input process that engaged citizens throughout the community, Confluence created a planning tool that provided prioritized action items and recommended time frames for implementation for the circulation, land use and character of the corridor.
