Parkville, Missouri
Parkville's Farmers Market structure was damaged by two truck crashes and needed to be replaced, providing an opportunity to engage the community to explore replacement and improvement options.
Our team organized and facilitated several public outreach events, met with key stakeholders, and held community meetings to determine what citizens and visitors liked about the existing facility, and what they wanted to see included in a new Farmers Market. We set up booths at the market to engage both vendors and visitors, and developed in-person and online questionnaires which garnered nearly 900 survey responses.
Using the input received, we developed a new Farmers Market concept including surrounding site improvements to better connect this facility into the urban fabric of Downtown Parkville. This included extensions of new sidewalks and streetscape, reconfiguration of the surrounding parking areas, and landscaped islands to protect the new structure.
These recommendations supported the City's request for a significant funding partnership with Platte County to assist in the cost of replacing this facility, which is anticipated to be in place in 2025.
