Vision Van Meter 2040 creates a long-term vision to manage growth in the community while preserving the small-town feel through managed growth that will feel more organic.

Van Meter is a small but growing community on the western edge of the Des Moines metro area. Nestled in the rolling hills of Dallas County along the banks of the Raccoon River, Van Meter has a long history as a rail community that was shielded from much growth in the past despite its proximity to Des Moines. However, the westward expansion of the metro combined with the natural beauty and strong school district have increased growth pressures on Van Meter.

A Capital Improvements Plan was also completed as part of the comprehensive plan to ensure expected growth could be adequately served by infrastructure.
