Stockyards Plaza Park
Client
Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation
Size
4 acres
Sioux Falls, South Dakota
Intended to preserve and honor the history of the Stockyards and local agriculture, this new park will provide the City with a unique educational experience serving future generations.
The early growth of Sioux Falls can be attributed to the Sioux Falls Stockyards and adjacent John Morrell packing plant. Due to changing environmental conditions, the Stockyards were closed in 2009 after being in operation for more than 92 consecutive years. Confluence facilitated a collaborative, client-driven master planning process - involving a diverse group of public and private stakeholders.
The resulting Master Plan features several thematic elements communicating the story of agriculture in our economy and society - and showcasing the impact it's had on our region. The four-acre plaza and park will greatly expand the programming and educational opportunities of the adjacent Stockyards Ag Experience.
