This project is the culmination of a long-term Master Plan for the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, creating a vibrant central courtyard in the heart of the medical campus.

Confluence led the site planning and design process as part of a multi-disciplinary team of architects and engineers - using some ideas generated from a previously completed campus plan and transforming them into reality. The project includes important pedestrian linkages through the medical campus while also providing a variety of active and passive spaces for faculty, students and staff to enjoy.

Our landscape architects guided the owner through a myriad of technical design challenges related to site access, shallow soil depths due resulting from below-grade facilities, and a lengthy construction process. The resulting facility and surrounding landscape is a welcoming addition to the campus.
