University of Minnesota: Essex Corridor at the Superblock

Minneapolis, Minnesota

The redesign of the Superblock prioritizes the pedestrian through the Essex Corridor and invites students to congregate, socialize, play and relax.

Referred to as the Superblock, this area is home to 2,900 students living in four adjacent University residence halls. Confluence led a multidisciplinary team to revitalize this entire space while overcoming challenges associated with adjacent residence hall renovation activities, maintaining essential transit services, meeting a compressed construction schedule, and collaborating with a large group of University stakeholder partners with varied priorities and points of view.

The results of this revitalization provides a more cohesive, accessible campus fabric that better serves students and the broader University community.
