Serving as the predominant anchor of Kansas City's Power + Light District, this new corporate office building was constructed in conjunction with the initial phase of this major redevelopment project.
As part of a multi-disciplinary team, Confluence led the site planning and urban design for the new H&R Block corporate headquarters. We crafted a series of pedestrian plaza spaces and streetscape features throughout the site. Surrounded on three sides by a high-rise office building, a theater for performing arts, and a training and dining facility, the primary courtyard serves as circulation space, casual lunch space and a venue for hosting corporate receptions.
A large water feature functions as the focal piece of this space and is overlapped by a simple square arbor that has been adopted by the company as a “living logo.” Covered with vegetation, this arbor feature provides visual contrast with the muted natural tones of the paving - becoming a highly visible green square when viewed from the offices above.
