Waunakee Public Library

Waunakee, Wisconsin

This brownfield site reclamation project features full site design to literally bridge the library and Six Mile Creek.

Confluence was part of the multi-disciplinary team retained to design a new library for the Village of Waunakee. The property selected for the library is an abandoned industrial site with numerous environmental challenges including brownfield designation, wetlands and a creek with failing slopes separating the north and south portions of the site.

Confluence provided design support across the site, including green roof design, creek bank restoration, site circulation and entry plaza design. The green roof is a point of pride for Waunakee and is featured throughout the second floor. The landscape plan utilizes native plants to frame views out from the building. Hardscape elements are quarried from locally-sourced limestone to further connect the building and site with the surrounding scenic landscape.
