The Imagine Downtown KC 2030 Strategic Plan was officially revealed at a community celebration this afternoon in Kansas City’s Historic 18th + Vine District. This plan creates an equitable, inclusive, and vibrant vision for the greater downtown area.
A multi-disciplinary planning team, led by consulting group MIG, developed this plan for Downtown Kansas City (DTC). The plan is intended to guide the City’s efforts for advancing a series of goals, transformative strategies, and catalytic projects designed to inspire and shape the future. The planning process began in March 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic, which required the development of a robust hybrid approach for engaging the community and gathering input from hundreds of local business, civic, and governmental, and neighborhood representatives.
This project provided Confluence staff with an opportunity to serve in a strong local urban design and planning role providing significant local context and understanding of various existing downtown projects and initiatives. In many cases, we drew upon our prior experience being directly involved in relevant downtown planning and design initiatives. This plan outlines a wide range of socio-economic, environmental and infrastructure initiatives while guiding efforts to implement each component of the plan’s recommendations.
