Krause Gateway Center 6th Floor Prairie Green Roof 2022

Monday, September 12, 2022

It’s been four years since we planted the 17,000 plugs on the 6th Floor of the Krause Gateway Center building! The half-acre, native prairie green roof, is still the only one in the state of Iowa! It’s a quiet sanctuary, giving stellar views to the horizon, while also being a habitat for pollinators like bats, birds, and bees. The space provides a contemplative and reflective experience, all while lessening the impact of energy usage and water run-off. The Confluence Des Moines office was given permission to come revisit the green roof last week to see growth. The plugs have come a long way, check out the before and after photos!

After B.jpgKrause Gateway Center – directly adjacent to the world-class John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park – is the headquarters of Krause Group. Originally conceived in 2013, the building opened its doors to Krause Group associates in November 2018. The award-winning LEED Gold project is a beacon of environmental sensitivity that overcame the typical office building barriers between public and private space.

After E.jpgMany thanks to an amazing team: Krause Group, Renzo Piano Building Workshop, OPN Architects, and Ryan Companies!
