Patrick Alvord to speak at USGBC Session

Thursday, April 7, 2022

On April 19, Confluence’s Patrick Alvord will be speaking at USGBC Iowa’s Habitat Restoration Education Session. He’ll be sharing key insights from developing the ReLeaf Cedar Rapids plan to replant trees in the city following the August 2020 derecho.

ReLeaf Cedar Rapids is an urban reforestation plan for the citizens of Cedar Rapids. In collaboration with planner Jeff Speck, Confluence was engaged by Trees Forever, Inc. to create a comprehensive plan to guide the replanting and replacement of the City's lost urban tree canopy. The planning process is on-going and utilizes significant public input to prioritize the community's replanting efforts based on several criteria - with equity being a primary driver.

Since 2004, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)'s Iowa chapter has been building a strong local base of individuals and companies that support sustainability, energy efficiency, and water conservation, using LEED as a measure of success.
