Shelby graduated with a degree in landscape architecture from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln in December of 2022. During her time as a student, she worked as a gardener in Omaha and developed a strong passion for artful and ecologically beneficial planting design. In school, her favorite classes were historic preservation and transportation planning, which both strengthened her interest in how landscape architecture can enrich existing community connections and fit within the site context.
While participating in her college’s undergraduate research program, she collaborated with local historians and landscape architects to aid in the master planning process of state parks in rural Nebraska. She presented her research findings about cultural narratives at the Environmental Design Research Association Conference. Through this experience, she grew to appreciate the benefits of design rooted in research-based solutions.
She strives to spread the joy of designing to the next generations and has participated in programs for teaching K-12 students who have an interest in design professions. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, gardening, volunteering at the pet shelter, and exploring Kansas City.
